The seeds of Joseph Mallimo’s passion for cars took root when he was eight or nine years old. When his father would work on his own Trans-Am, Joseph was at his side learning the basics. Now in his second year of the Auto Body Program at Milliken Tech, this Connetquot senior is carefully developing a career path for himself in the industry, while capitalizing on his time at the Academy.
The atmosphere of the Auto Body classroom where he interacts with classmates and a teacher who all have the same interests is something Joseph truly enjoys. “It's refreshing because most of the people that I go to school with don’t share the same passion for cars. To be in a classroom with other people who know what I'm actually talking about is really fulfilling,” he said.
After high school graduation, Joseph plans to attend the GMC Auto Technology Program at Suffolk County Community College to round out his skill set and make him that much more marketable to prospective employers. “I want to know the auto body and auto tech ends of the business,” he explained. Until then, Joseph hopes to soon secure an entry-level job in the industry and is confident the Academy has prepared him for this first step in his career.
